How the exam works
- They are conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and lead to the Class 10 board certificate, and entry into Class 11.
- As with Class 12, CBSE has been adding competency-based and case-based questions, so understanding concepts is more important than memorising answers.
- Dates, syllabus, eligibility and the exam pattern are revised from time to time, so confirm all of them on the official website before you plan around them.
Where to focus
Maths
Practise every type of problem in the NCERT and its exemplar, and write out the full working; marks follow the steps.
Science
Understand each concept, learn the diagrams, and practise definitions and reasoning-based answers. Revise numericals with formulae and units.
Social science
Read the chapters, make short notes with dates, terms and maps, and practise writing structured answers.
Languages
Grammar, writing formats and reading comprehension reward regular, short practice.
A weekly rhythm that works
- After school: a short revision of what was taught, then the exercise.
- Weekly: a timed section of a sample paper, with marks checked against the scheme.
- Every two weeks: a recall quiz on earlier chapters.
- Final month: full papers in exam conditions, and a calm routine with enough sleep.
